About Mosquito Creek Recreation Area

Mosquito Creek Recreation Area

Mosquito Creek Recreation Area, located in northeastern Ohio, spans across Trumbull County and is centered around Mosquito Creek Lake, a prominent feature offering 7,850 acres of water surface for boating, fishing, and wildlife observation. The surrounding landscape is a mix of open fields, dense woodlands, and wetlands that provide a varied habitat for many species. Historically, the area was developed for flood control as part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mosquito Creek Lake project initiated in 1944. Today, it serves as a prime spot for outdoor recreation, drawing visitors with its 29 miles of shoreline, numerous trails, and picturesque settings. Key attractions include the pristine waters of Mosquito Creek, rich fishing grounds teeming with bass, walleye, and panfish, as well as multiple trails that meander through forests and along the lakeshore, ideal for hiking and biking. In winter, the landscape transforms, offering opportunities for cross-country skiing and ice fishing. The area is also a haven for bird watchers and nature photographers, with regularly sighted species including bald eagles and ospreys.
